So, it's been officially a forever and a day and half since I added anything to this journal.

ANYWAY. I've been moved in up here in Muncie for 10 days now, and it's pretty cool. My apartment is nothing to write home about, but generally it's pretty good for me, and possibly a few people who care to drop by if you're ever in the area (100 S. College Ave, apt 8. Knock, ask for Tim. If Tim does not answer, do not continue to knock.)

I've only had 3 classes so far (PoliSci, Western Civ, and Language and Society). They're actually pretty good so far, although my LangSoc professor seems to REALLY enjoy repeating herself and just talking in general.

I have 2 hours now until my other fun English classes in which I will have to read (for the THRID TIME) The Great Gatsby. Tell me, has this book been analyzed to death or what? But I suppose it's as good a book as any to use to learn about the different aspects of theory in the literary world.

I'm off for now. Behave yourselves, children.

Oh, and Flush the Johns, vote Bush-Cheney '04

You know what's funny? When people use something in an argument that you have irrefutable proof is not true. It's like they're intentionally throwing the game. Woot.

Anywho. I've decided that next year at school is going to be much simpler. No internet in my apartment, no cable TV, no nothing. Not that I will really miss cable. I mean, we have 76 channels plus HBO plus Showtime at my house, but I maybe watch three channels. I am usually not free to turn on the TV until maybe 11PM or so, and since Showtime and HBO are usually showing something like "Sinful Almost Pr0n Part XXII - This Time It Almost Looks Like Sex", all I have to watch is SportsCenter, the content of which I could really just get by watching the paper.

Yay. More time to study, read, and write. The only downside is it will be harder to follow politics. But, I can always drag my laptop over to Alissa's and plug in to her cable modem. Yes! I have become the freeloading fiance!

I miss Alissa, in other news. Working late shift sucks. I can't see her, and I have to work with Salim, Mr. "I'll pretend I don't understand you if it means I don't have to help", and MArvin, Mr. "I'll show up to work when I want to do exactly what I want to and don't tell me otherwise." Gee, don't you just love the food service industry?

But, I'm on a couple of days with short shifts, so this should be better. Tomorrow will be good. Until then.

So Alissa went to work for the first day today. That didn't work out so well. Suffice it to say, she'll be looking for another job. Doped-up rednecks and schizophrenic (no, not kidding) supervisors do not make for a healthy work environment. I wouldn't want her to go back and basically fear for her life every day.

So, I'll just keep on working at Subway. I would not be entirely surprised if I go in one day and that place is burned to the ground by someone. Salim or Tim or Sam or Jeff or Suresh for insurance or me to just get everyone to shut UP. Ok, maybe not.

School is 7 weeks away. It can NOT come quickly enough. Hurry, please.

This is a great article.

You should read it, especially if you have seen, or plan to see, a Michael Moore "documentary".

[Entertainment of the Day |Eve 6 - Girl Eyes]

So I finally did it today.

Alissa and I were at the Indy Antiques Expo, where, but a strange twist of the temporal continuum, we were in fact the youngest people there by a good 10 years. Other than generally screwing with the demographics of said event, we were also looking for an engagement ring.

Which I found. It was a beautiful 14k gold 3-stone affair with about 60 points of diamonds in it. It was from 1950, and we got it for about 1/5 the price of a jewelry store. Alissa is, of course, still in the constantly-walking-around-while-staring-at-it-and-glowing stage. It's cute. It really is.

Other then that, we basically hung out at her house, since her dad was home, and he is a remarkably cool man. We registered fro some gifts at Target and Bed, Bath, and Beyond, (which, despite my expectations, qas quite fun), and watched a terribly written and scripted movie which purported to be about a Red Violin, but which I think was more about seeing how many languages requiring subtitles they could pack into one movie. The incredibly inventive title of said film was, you guessed it, The Red Violin. I do not know why Samuel L. JAckson chose to sully his career by acting in this stinker, but I feel a need to go watch Pulp Fiction 2 or 3 times to return him to his Mentos-Cool (r) state he should always remain in.

Talked with my parents for about an hour after I got home, and now...sleep. Work tomorrow is from 9 to 4, with Salim, so it will suchk. Sunday mornings are the worst. But, sleep is good and Alissa is wonderful, so I had a fantastic day today to make up for a lousy outlook for tomorrow. Bye all!

So tonight Alissa and I (Along with most of my family, including parents and all living grandparents) went to my sister's final dance recital at Noblesville High School.

I'm not a big fan of dance shows, but this one actually was pretty interesting. I especfially liked an Indian hip-hop piece by Punjabi MC. So, the evening wasn't a wash after all, I wound up enjoying it despite myself.

Plus we got to go to Handel's afterwards! Mmm....more fat-inducing ice-creamy goodness. Then Alissa and I just went back to her house and talked for a while before I headed home. Tomorrow I hope I can get a hold of Mr. Paradise to talk more on diamond rings and a certain purchase I have been researching. Also working and calling Ball State to schedule a scheduling appointment. Sounds funny, doesn't it?

Good night all.

And anyone wonders why I think liberalism is a mental disease? This is from the party that claims Rush Limbaugh should be put in front of a war crimes tribunal for "hate speech". Sigh.

And thanks to Neal Boortz for bringing this to the attention of me and thousands all over the country. It's good to know that sanity has a bastion somewhere.

Preface: Nothing is more amusing that a Bangledeshi cursing vehemently, in both English and his native tongue.

Work was great today. I work again tomorrow (11-4), then I Will be picking up Alissa and playing at the HSE Baccalaureate (sic?). Then, Thursday and Friday are MINE, ALL MINE!! BWAHAHAHAHA!!

Ok, I am done channeling megalomaniacs. I am looking forward to a few days off. I have to work the weekend again, since everyone has requested off for Memorial Day except for me and Tim D. No workers -> more hours for me -> larger paychecks. Yay!

For now, I'm gonna listen to some music, maybe watch some anime, after I talk to my fiancee. Goodnight, world.

I must say, working Sundays is significantly easier than any other day of the week as far as number of customers per hour (i.e., we opened at 9AM and the first customer did not appear until 11. Huzzah.), but harder in the fact that I tend to stay up until quite late Saturdays, whether it's watching the genius of Tarantino with Alissa and Andy or otherwise. Today I work 4-8, which is good because it means I'm taking Jordan's shift, and the less of him we have at work, the better for all the rest of us. Alissa is talking to Tim Kirk today about reserving the church for THE DATE (July 31st, 2005). I am pretty sure it will be available, but...who knows. Stranger things have happened.

I think I'm going back to sleep now. All hail odd working hours.

I went with Andy today to see Troy, which was rather a disappointment. It had its moments but by and large I think that Homer is spinning in his grave at the depictions of Achilles and some others.

On a better note, I finished The Handmaid's Tale, by Margaret Atwood today. This is one of the most remarkable pieces of literature I have ever read. It's a great warning against combining religion and politics, as well as a great criticism of religion (and sometime's government's) oppresion of women. But it's so much more... I can't really describe it all in a short post, so I'll just say GO READ IT.

Oh. And in case you didn't know...

JULY 31ST 2005

That's the date Alissa and I are going to get married. More details as we figure them out, but it will probably be at Christ Community Church in Carmel. I'm freakin' happy!! I won't go on and bore the rest of you, though you know I could. :) Bye for now.

Work is insane. And I love it. I don't have a day off now until the end of the week, but I'm picking up a lot of hours. Which equates to money. Which is good. Good.

Alissa is at the hospital right now with her brother. I Don't know what happened, but she didn't sound like it was life-threatening. I sure hope not, cause Mark is a really cool guy.

And R.C. Sproul is a very wise man. Even is he is Reformed.

Burning the midnight anime oil [May. 6th, 2004|02:13 am]
So, I finally had a chance to sit down and catch up on all the anime I've been downloading but not having a chance to watch. Many hours later, I'm mostly caught up.

Area 88 has so much kick-ass plane dogfight action, that they forgot to add in any real charachters until about episode 6. And then when it started being about Shin and Shinjou and their histories, and Kanzaki's treachery, it turned into a really good series. I'm up to episode 11 and hoping to finish off the series whenever freakin' AniKraze finished subbing it.

PLANETES - Best of last season, but they still don't have the last ep done. (Never mind, I just checked...they posted the torrent not five minutes ago on AnimeSuki). Great charachters, tension, action, suspense, drama, humor, and the single best OP I have ever seen in an anime. REcommended to all, for the most realistic vision of humanity's future in space I have ever seen depicted.

Midori no Hibi - Now, this is hilarious. But, it's also disturbing. The guy has a freaking GIRL FOR A RIGHT HAND. No, we don't know how or why yet, just that it happened. And everyone that finds out takes it way too easily. Sometimes, they barely even blink at the fact that (yes I said it once, but incase any of you are narcoleptic and missed that first part) HE HAS A GIRL FOR A RIGHT HAND!!!! Definite OMGWTFBBQ plot device there. Not that it isn't hysterically funny, because it is that, it's just odd. Likeable odd though. Just please, please do not add any more fan service than the miniscule amount now interspersed in this series. That could get very bad very fast. I do not need an endless series of "His lover is his right hand" jokes.

GANTZ - MAkes MNH look sane and normal. People are killed. Then they're alive. Or maybe just a copy of them is alive. There are a group of them. There is a black ball named (somehow) Gantz, with a man inside who dispenses firearms like a drunken sailor dispenses money at a topless bar. They have to kill aliens. That. Are. Leeks. LEEKS! Then they're back to their lives. OR not. One guy has a magic power suit. That apparently only activates when he thinkgs dirty thoughts about a girl who he met. In the room where all the people who died and were faxed to heaven or earth went. HE kicks the shit out of several gang members. (Insert 15 minutes of random cuts, flash-backs, flash-forwards, flash-forward-backs, and the like). And so on and so on. Do not look for sanity, O Peoples of Animedom, for ye shall not find it in these halls.

Monster - Now this is very good. Great crime/horror drama. The main charachter is set up very nicely over three episodes, his background and charachteristics, before we even move into the timeframe the plot is currently focused on. It's set in (at first pre-unification and then shortly post-unification) Germany, and the animations is such that you can watch this series and briefly forget that you are watching anime. That is, if you can ignore the fact that everyone is speaking Japanese. This is my favorite show of the season so far.

Kenran Butoh Sai - So far, a fairly half-baked pseudo-mecha show. Quite a disappointment from Studio Bones after they treated us to Scrapped Princess last year. Please, begin to have coherent plot. And background for this world. And humor that doesn't suck. And if your'e going to backe this a full-fledged underwater mecha show, you might want to show the mechs more than once every other episode. Oh, and for God's sake, could you not have come up with a better name for them than Round Bucklers? Did the English dictionary you were using just happen to fall open to a word one day and you named the ships after it? *Shurg!*

As I write this I realize I actually have 2 or 3 more series I need to catch up on, but I probably won't do those tonight, or anytime soon. Kono Minikuku mo Utskushii Seikai is from Gainax, so it has promise, but seems like it might be in the strain of Mahoromatic. If so, eye-gouging will ensue on the part of me, swift deletage will ensue on the part of the three episodes I downloaded. And the Melody of Oblivion series looks promising, but I've had my fill of avant-garde genre-bending mindfuck anime for the week/month/eternity, and this oen can wait until I have the time to determine if it actually suceeds at anything it tries. Also, Aishiteruze Baby, which was cute in its first episode but not really worth following regularly. I may download this when I have the space/bandwidth/time to do so. Or maybe not, as the mood strikes. As always, I'm sure there are series I should see that I enver will, but now that I'm back on unrestricted bandwidth (aka my house's cabe modem) I'm at least trying to keep up with this season.

It's a good thing I have work, which forces me to condense this all down to one night, or it would take up a lot of my time. Damn, that's a lot of series now that I look at it. Thank you life, for keeping me from being locked up in the basement forever by this. Still, it's often escapism (weird, Japenese-flavored escapism even!) at its best. Huzzah! Farewell and goodnight. Pull me out from inside

I am ready, I am ready
I am ready, I am

Stutter-shook and uptight.

I am ready, I am fine.

I am covered in skin
No one gets to come in
Pull me out from inside

I am folded, and unfolded
and unfolding I am colorblind
